Am I being stupid spending my savings on my first motorbike?
I need some honest opinions from people who ride. I’m a beginner and have finally decided I want to get a 125cc motorbike, but I’ve got myself completely stuck between being sensible with my money and buying the bike I actually want. I take home around £2,000 a month and have about £4,000 saved. I could buy a decent used 125 for around £2,000–£2,500 and keep some savings behind me. But I keep looking at the bikes I actually like, which would probably mean spending around £3,500–£4,000 and leaving myself with very little savings. I know the sensible answer is probably “buy the cheaper bike and upgrade later”, but I’ve wanted a bike for years. Part of me thinks I’ll regret settling for something I don’t really like. At the same time, I’ve never ridden properly before, so maybe spending nearly all my savings on my first bike is just stupid. What would you? I genuinely can’t decide, so I’m interested in what other riders would do in my situation.
